So ... I've slept on it. I'm probably comitting heresy but i'm sorry, I found the end somehow unsatisfing. Yes - I'd figured that they would probably have to end it with him either staying in 1973 or dying (it seems they did both), but I think it needed more than a 'He woke up and it was all a dream' explanation - and given the fact they have confirmed the 80's follow up (and therefore suggesting Gene and co are real in someway) and that someone else is going to have an accident and end working with Gene in the 80's they needed something to keep the mystery of the show.

Don't get me wrong - it wasn't a bad ending and I enjoyed it but ... I don't know, maybe some kind of throw away comment someone might have made about him changing something (when he talked to his mum would have been the perfect opportunity for a small comment about the events surrounding his dads disappearence). Because if he really was just in a coma it makes a lot of the season 1 episodes - well - pointless. It wouldn't have to have been big or obvious - just enough to make you go 'Hang on a second...'

Plus - I have certain issues with using suicide as an escape to a mundane life for personal reasons. I know some people have suggested they were trying to suggest he never went back and that the present wasn't real - but I don't get that - it was more that he felt more alive in 73. But killing yourself ? Sorry - may just be me but I didnt like that.

I don't know. I'm going to have to think about it some more.

I did like the symetry of him jumping off the same building that he almost jumped off at the end of the very first episode when he was told to get back he'd have to jump.

I did enjoy it ok - but I can't get over the unsatisfied feeling. Perhaps if I'm honest there was no real ending that would have made me happy. I'd like to see the alternate ending that they shot - anyone know if its on the DVD coming out next week?

Still at least Sea of Souls is back next week - hopefully it wil be more like the first couple of seasons than the last one ...
