Me: (Wakes with a start) what the F**k was that.
Podia: (wakes slowly) hmmm what.
Me: The bed shook.
Podia: No it didnt
Me: Yes it did ...

Thats the second earthquake she slept through (the last one was the one in dudley in 2002) That one was felt more too - we were in Northwood when that one struck, It sounded like a huge lorry rumbling past. This one (now in Aylesbury) I didnt hear anything - but the bed shook for around 10 seconds - was a really weird feeling.

I was thinking that there was some other disturbance going on in my terrace. The initial vibration was on a par with the effects of somebody else slamming the front door (and the shock wave travels all along the front walls :(. However, it went on sufficiently long that I was beginning to get quite disturbed, and ended up wandering round the house with a torch[1], just in case it was somebody breaking in.

[1] The fuse for the lights blew earlier in the evening, and I need to go to B&Q to replace it. Until then, I live in darkness!

I slept through at least one in the 1980s, so I was grateful to the 2002 swarm because a lot of them were in the day when I was better placed to admire them.

We ended up peering warily into the airing cupboard, because it really sounded like the hot water tank was in the process of exploding... only after making sure it wasn't did we decide that it might have been an earthquake.

It did initially feel like next door were slamming doors or something, but went on too long for that to be plausible.

I remember the Dudley one waking me up, but I slept right through this one. I must have been in the wrong part of the sleep cycle.
