Sigh ... The LJ-Mojo scam still haunts people ....

It's still finding people - For those that don't know any name you put into the LJ-Mojo meme has now found its way into a database (the guys that wrote the meme simply did it to farm information) which when queried says you 'dated' - well - everyone whose name you put in to any answer in the meme - regardless of what the question was ...

This seems to be causing red faces all round as people suddanly find they have 'dated' someone they only have had any contact with through LJ.

So .. If anyone suddanly finds they are being hassled about saying they have dated someone that they have never met - this is probably why ....

So what can the guys do with the database other than annoy you?

They can do two things

a) replace the meme result image in your LJ with something obscene, disgusting and certainly not suitable for children
b) publicise a list of people you "dated" which might include people you have had an affair with but their partner (who is on LJ) didn't know about (accurate or not)
c) destroy the community and friendship by violating your trust

a) they did, and it was pretty disgusting and totally inappropriate
b) is there. Luckily it seems a bunch of people (including my friends) chose a bunch of their friends or random LJers so the list has no validity, but I can still see arguments springing up across LJ land between people who find their partner listed as dating someone else
c) they did very effectively, I'll never trust the anonymity of LJ memes again.

I remember something similar to this happening in about 1999 or 98, except then it wasn't "dated" it was "slept with" and I think the person doing it claimed it was for a research project into Internet communities. The result was a massive diagram with dozens of names in boxes and lines showing who (claimed to have) slept with whom.
