So ... London Transports response to the Highways agency telling everyone to leave their car at home and take the Bus?

Cancel all the buses (and most tubes)

I mean ?? What ??

Sorry - But people have to work. Thats just bollocks.

*ETA* I've done the drive from Aylesbury to Oxford as usual this morning, No delays and once again it odd to watch the snow diminish as I do the drive - Oxford has half the snow we have in Aylesbury.

I'm looking at the "essential trips only" suggestion - IMO work is _not_ essential - QED!

Plus, there are no trains in Sussex right now!

The problwm with that is for some people work *is essential* - if they don't go in they get sacked (or at least pay docked, diciplinaries etc).

I am in the position that I could work from home and working for Oxfam they aren't going to mind - but there's a lot of people that simply don't have that choice.

And i've driven in anyway as for some reason oxford seems to have avoided most of the snow (so far) - It half the depth here than it was when I left home.

It's probably heading your way, so take care coming home now.

We're somewhat spared by the geography (hills/bowl combination that works in our favour) and our distance from the Chilterns and Cotswolds - snow sweeping off the escarpment gangs up on places like Aylesbury. South Oxfordshire often gets totally swamped - my old school is closed today - but Oxford always gets less.

You know where we are if it hits very badly later.

Ta.

Which reminds me ... I have converted all my BSG for PS3 and left it copying over to my portable drive. I should be able to drop them in tomorrow - its about 20 GB's worth - can you find out how big your PS HD is ... I've done you Season 4 up to date (4x13) and Razor (I assume you haven't seen that - It aired between S3 & 4 even though it's set between 2 & 3 - very B5 that)

It'll be fine at 20Gb+, we can put it on the NAS and stream it to the PS3, apparently. (This is how we watch Big Bang Theory so I should have remembered that.)

Thanks for including Razor, I forgot about that!

Are those x264 MKV ones ? Sometimes the MKV2VOB loses sync. Prod Stuart, ask him about MKV ... I'll stick both on the drive.

The BB Theorys are standard definition AVIs at around 180 meg per episode.

Someday I might bother looking at HD on my TV. But it'll only go up to 720 (and I don't even know if that's p or i), so I've only been acquiring SD stuff.

Tell him to set it up to use the NAS shares and bingo ...

Fully ready for HD x264 playback (even if you are watching them onan SDTV ;-) )

Sounds like the move made on the trains in Clacton where they put the prices up because they were too popular or something...?!

...And then they ran adverts about how trains were a cheap way to travel.

Definitely a WTF situation if ever I saw one...

Ironically, the reason why they often cancel services is because the drivers can't get into work because of the snow...
